Capacitive Skin

2024 Research Project

Electrodes on the floor and ceiling turn a room into a large parallel-plate capacitor. Changes in capacitance are used to measure proximity, walking, position and contact with furniture and objects.

The research explores sensor materials that integrate electrodes into existing floors and ceilings, with applications across different spaces.

The foundational system was developed with my co-author. I developed the measurement software and designed and built the electrode-bearing sensor materials.
